Once Google Classroom syncing has been enabled for the district, instructors will be responsible for managing their synced Google Classroom classes. This will require monitoring in both TeacherEase and Google Classroom.

How to Manage Synced Classes
You can begin viewing your classes by going to Instructor Main > Gradebook > Setup > Sync Google Classroom. Only the Google account holder (the instructor) will have the ability to view this page. Admins may not access this through the instructor GoTo.
The sync currently only supports a 1:1 sync between classes. It is only possible to link one TeacherEase class to one Google Classroom class at a time.
To link a class:
- Next to an available class, select Link
- Choose an available Google Classroom class
- Next
- Verify there are no roster / email matching issues
- Choose whether to begin syncing assignments now or later
Refresh Roster
- When new students are added to a class, the roster will need to be refreshed so that the student can be a recognized part of the sync. In order for this to function properly, the student will require a unique email in TeacherEase, matching the email used in Google Classroom.
- If you’d like to update student email addresses, please read How do I import student email addresses?
To unlink a class
- Please refer to Effects of Unlinking before doing this
- Next to a synced class, select Unlink
How to Manage Synced Assignments
When classes are synced, assignments from Google Classroom will automatically populate into TeacherEase. View the list of synced assignments to control which assignments show in the gradebook and correct any settings that might prevent successful syncing.
- Go to Instructor Main > Gradebook > Setup > Sync Google Classroom
- Select Assignments on a class
- Click show all assignments>>
Each Google Classroom assignment should appear in one of the following three sections:
A list of assignments that could not be pulled into TeacherEase:
-
- Assignments here are unable to be synced, either because of a configuration problem in Google Classroom or because TeacherEase needs additional information.
- Possible Google Classroom fixes:
- Assign a due date
- Assign a max point value
- Ensure the assignment is not saved as a draft
- Ensure the assignment is assigned to students
- Categories and Standards-based Grading (SBG)
- If the class uses categories or standards-based grading, all assignments will show here first.
-
Because Google Classroom does not support syncing of categories or standards based grading, categories and learning targets must be manually assigned to each assignment before they can successfully sync. It’s not possible to assign more than one learning target to an assignment.
-
To add the required information:
-
Select Edit next to the assignment
-
Assign a category / learning target
-
Save
-
You should observe it move to the “A list of assignments that have been successfully pulled into TeacherEase” section
-
A list of assignments that have been purposefully left out of TeacherEase:
- These have been purposefully removed from the TeacherEase gradebook by the instructor. All assignments will be listed here first if, upon linking for the first time, the instructor elected not to sync assignments right away.
- To begin syncing these assignments
- Click the check box next to each assignment to trigger it to sync over. You should observe it move to the “A list of assignments that have been successfully pulled into TeacherEase” section
- You may check the top box to sync all available assignments
A list of assignments that have been successfully pulled into TeacherEase:
- These have synced successfully and will show in the TeacherEase gradebook.
- If the class does not have categories or use SBG and the assignment doesn’t have any required information missing in Google Classroom, new assignments will show here right away.
- To unlink assignments
- Please read Effects of Unlinking before doing this.
- Click the check box next to each assignment to trigger it to unlink. You should observe it move to the “A list of assignments that have been purposefully left out of TeacherEase” section
- You may check the top box to unlink all assignments
Assignment Grading Periods
Instructors must use the assignment due date in Google Classroom in order to place an assignment into the correct grading period in TeacherEase. If the assignment due date falls within (and including) a grading period’s start / end dates, then the assignment will appear under that grading period.
How to Edit Synced Assignments
Because the sync is one-way, all edits to assignment data (such as title, maximum point value, or due date) will need to be made in Google Classroom. It is not possible to make these edits in TeacherEase.
Workflow for Synced Assignments
Once an assignment has successfully been synced, this will be the typical workflow for teachers working in both Google Classroom (GC) and TeacherEase (TE).
- The teacher creates an assignment with a due date in GC and the assignment syncs into TE.
- When a student submits work, it gets marked as submitted in GC, and in TE it is marked handed in.
- The teacher enters the grade in GC and returns it to the student; the grade then syncs to TE.
- If the same student submits additional work, then the student is marked resubmitted in GC, but the existing grade is not changed in GC or TE.
- The teacher can, at his / her discretion, change the GC grade and return it to the student. If this happens, the new grade will sync to TE.
- When another student submits work later, the process repeats starting from step 2.
Please note that any time an assignment/score is changed in Google Classroom, it sends a message to TeacherEase, which fetches the current score and updates TeacherEase. These automatic updates conveniently move data for users and keep things in sync.
If you change a score in TeacherEase, however, it does not get pushed back to Google. This would mean the scores are out of sync. Any change to the Google Classroom score would cause TeacherEase to refetch the score and overwrite these changes. For this reason, we caution against editing scores in TeacherEase when the assignment is linked to Google Classroom.
Effects of Unlinking
If you unlink a Google Classroom from your TeacherEase class, data entered in Google Classroom will no longer update your TeacherEase gradebook. All assignments already synced to your TeacherEase gradebook will remain there, and any new adjustments to scores for these assignments should be completed within TeacherEase. If you no longer wish to include Google Classroom assignments in your TeacherEase gradebook, you can delete these assignments to remove their scores from your students’ grades.
If you re-link an assignment after it was un-linked, then grades from Google Classroom will overwrite grades in TeacherEase. In this case, students that do not have a grade in Google Classroom, but have a grade in TeacherEase, will have their TeacherEase grade removed and overwritten by the blank grade from syncing with Google Classroom.
