Incident types categorize student behaviors that require discipline incidents and actions. SchoolInsight populates a list of incident types required for state, Illinois and Missouri, reports, and the Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC). You can update types to meet your school’s discipline policies. Please note that some incident types cannot be deleted in Illinois and Missouri, because of state reporting restrictions.
To create a new incident type:
- Go to District or School Main > Discipline > Incident Types > Create Incident Type
- Enter a Description
- Choose the level/availability for the incident type:
- Entire District: This permission group can be used on any role, school or district
- School Type: This permission group can only be used at the specified school type, I.E. Elementary, Middle, High
- Set of Schools: This permission group can only be used at the specified schools
- Single School: This permission group can only be used at this specified school
- Reported to the State as
- Choose Not Reported to the State, if the incident should not be reported to the state; otherwise, select the state-recognized option

- (Optional) Sorting allows you to set the position of this incident type from the incident types list across multiple pages of the system.

You can deactivate incident types that are no longer applicable. This will retain the data from previous years, but no longer allow staff to select that type when creating a new discipline incident.
To mark a discipline incident inactive:
- Go to District or Admin Main > Discipline > Incident Types
- Locate the incident type and select edit
- Uncheck the active field
- Save
