This article will explain how you can create a pivot table / summary report to show you subgroups of students by race and by ethnicity in each grade level. SchoolInsight allows you to create such reports easily, and schools find them useful to check for missing demographics data when filling out CRDC reports.
To create a summary report:
- Go to Main > Reports > Saved Reports
- Create > Classic Custom Report
- Report Type
- Check the option summary report (pivot table)
- Check show subtotals
- Grouping
- This tab has a sample table at the bottom that is updated depending on the options you select.
- Remove gender from Columns
- Add the Race and Hispanic Columns instead.
- The preview table will look like this:
- Generate
The result is a report that will show you total students broken down by Race and further by Ethnicity. To see a breakdown of something else, such as IEP status, you can add any additional columns in the grouping tab.
If you see a value called Unassigned, then these are students who either don’t have a value selected for their race or ethnicity. Click on any of the displayed numbers to see the students’ names, or customize the field displayed in the drill down tab when creating the report.
