This article describes how teachers can use external assignments in TeacherEase to manage assignments and grades received from Canvas.
Before being able to use external assignments, a school/district admin should set up the integration with Canvas as described in this KB:
Please note, data flows at a delay between both platforms. Each night, data goes from TeacherEase to Canvas to upload up-to-date rostering information. After that, and once a night, data from Canvas (assignments and grades) will come back to TeacherEase.
To manage Canvas assignments in TeacherEase, follow these steps:
- Go to Instructor Main > Gradebook Setup > External Assignments.
Here, you will see a breakdown of three categories:
- A list of assignments that could not be pulled into TeacherEase. This list will have descriptive errors that will guide you to solve any issues preventing the assignment from being imported into your gradebook correctly. Depending on the error message, you can edit the assignment to fix the issue, or you may need to make changes in Canvas and wait for the assignment to update overnight to resolve the issue.
- A list of External assignments that will not sync with TeacherEase. These are assignments that you decided to leave out. If you wish to sync the assignment, you can check the box next to it, and it will be pulled into the gradebook.
- A list of assignments that currently sync with TeacherEase. This is a list of assignments that are being pulled into TeacherEase. If you wish to mark the assignment ‘Do not Sync,’ then check the box next to it, and it will stop syncing (no grades will be deleted).
