In December 2025, SchoolInsight Financials released an update that automatically added new accounts to the Chart of Accounts at some school districts. This article explains why the accounts were created and how you should review them.
Why were these accounts created?
In the past, SchoolInsight Financials had allowed certain workflows to post journal entries to accounts that were not in the Chart of Accounts. In December 2025, we made a structural change to completely forbid that.
Any accounts that have been used since 7/1/2025 were added to the Chart of Accounts as active accounts. This decision was made because some districts had a habit of ignoring the payroll warning about using invalid accounts. We didn’t want our change to cause delays in their payroll process.
Any accounts used prior to 7/1/2025 were added as inactive accounts. Inactive accounts cannot be used on future transactions unless they are reactivated.
How should I review these accounts?
The auto-created accounts are specially flagged on the Chart of Accounts page. To find them:
- Go to Financials Main > Setup > Chart of Accounts
- Click the three-vertical-dots icon on the Auto-Created column
- Check Yes
- Filter
This displays only the accounts that were auto-created. Auto-created accounts will also have no description. You should look through this list to decide whether or not each account should be active for use in the future. After you make a decision, you can edit the account, and the Auto-Created flag will be removed.
To edit an account:
- Click Edit next to the account
- If it is a valid account that may be used in the future, enter a Description
- If this account was a mistake that should not be in the future, uncheck the Active box
- Save
We recommend that you go through the entire list until no account has the Auto-Created column set to Yes.
