Attendance options are set at each individual building level and determine how attendance is taken at that building.

Attendance Modes
There are three attendance modes to choose from in SchoolInsight. Please read the linked articles to learn more about them:
Secondary: Import First Period
Secondary: Calculate at End of Day
Attendance Code Selection
- Manually select attendance codes
- This option allows the admin to manually assign any daily attendance to a student, regardless of their instructional minutes for the day.
- This option is only available for the self-contained and secondary import first period modes.
- Automatic selection based on time in attendance
- This option will only allow an attendance code if the student accumulates a certain number of instructional minutes.
- In Self-Contained mode and Secondary: Import First period, time is typically not a concern after the initial daily attendance value is imported. But, if a student arrives late or leaves early, the calculation will come into play and possibly restrict certain attendance values.
- In Secondary: Calculate at End of Day, this is the required mode.
Time in Attendance Calculated By
- No time used
- This option makes it so that SchoolInsight will not be able to perform any minute calculations for student attendance.
- The "no time" attendance calculation is rarely used by public schools. When used, no minutes are calculated and attendance must be displayed in "Days".
- Clock time (full)
- This attendance mode awards students instructional minutes based off of the school time for the day.
- This option is directly influenced by the Default School Time entry or any manual change to the school time input on a day in the academic calendar.
- Clock time (subtract non-instructional time)
- This option awards instructional minutes based off of the school time but subtracts minutes for any classes scheduled which are non-instructional.
- Whether or not a class is non-instructional is determined in its course settings.
- This mode requires at least one cycle day and a bell schedule.
- Instructional Time
- This option awards instructional minutes only based on classes scheduled which are designated as instructional.
- If a class is instructional, scheduled for 30 minutes, and the student is present for that period, the student is awarded 30 minutes.
- This is stricter in that, if students are not fully scheduled, they might not be able to get enough minutes for the day to be considered present.
- Passing periods will not count toward instructional time unless specifically scheduled.
Default School Time
- Enter the start and end times for the regular school day. This is needed if you want attendance minutes to be displayed when using clock or instructional time.
- Individual student start/end times should be entered to reflect their own regular schedule. Set times at Admin Main > Students - Single View > Edit Student in the Enrollment Details section. This is useful when a student has a regular schedule that doesn't match the typical school times. You must calculate time in attendance by "Clock time" to use this option.
- When the school start/end time is irregular (such as on late start / early release days), edit the academic calendar to specify the school start and end times.
