In SchoolInsight, there are two types of attendance: Period Attendance and Daily Attendance.
- Period Attendance is taken by instructors for their specific classes and only shows a student's attendance value for a specific class/section or period of the day.
- Daily Attendance is managed at the admin level. A student’s daily attendance value reflects their overall attendance for the entire school day. Daily attendance could be considered more official than period attendance, because it shows up on report cards, transcripts, and various state reports.
There are only two processes by which period attendance and daily attendance communicate. The process to use period attendance information to determine daily attendance information is not automatic, so it’s entirely possible you may find that the values are not the same.
For more details, read the section about your school’s attendance mode:
Self-Contained Mode or Secondary: Import First Period
Both of these attendance modes rely on an admin to use a period attendance import to obtain daily attendance values. Teachers may update period attendance after the import, but these updates will not immediately reflect into daily attendance unless an additional import is performed by an admin.
Additionally, admins are encouraged to update daily attendance as they receive new information throughout the day. Manual updates to daily attendance will not be reflected in period attendance.
Secondary: Calculate at End of Day
This mode relies on an admin to use a calculation, based on period attendance entries and the number of minutes present, to determine students’ daily attendance values. Because a single value is not directly being imported, like in the other two modes, it won’t be possible to directly compare multiple period attendance values to a single daily attendance value.
