This article explains how to update course data fields that are required for Oklahoma Wave reporting. The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) requires the following course data fields to be reported to the Wave in the CourseInfoInfo object. Note that the state does not require credit type nor instructional level for classes such as lunch and planning periods. For these types of courses, leave those fields blank:
- Subject
- Credits
- Course Number
- State Number
- Academic Course
- Instructional Level
- Credit Type
There are 3 ways to update Oklahoma Wave data for a course. Best practice is to update all known data using option 1 and 2, prior to using option 3. Option 3 is a data validation mechanism that is designed to show you missing and erroneous data after you enter data using the first two options.
Edit a Single Course
Editing a single course is typically done after you have recently added new courses or you discover a few course errors.
To edit a single course:
- Go to District/School Main > Courses > Course - Single View
- Find and select the course
- Edit Course
- Go to the State tab
- Set the required data fields
- Save
Mass Edit Courses
Mass editing allows you to update data fields for many courses at the same time. It is highly recommended that you update only one data field at a time so as to avoid making unintended changes to your courses. Therefore, when you need to update multiple data fields for multiple courses, use the mass edit feature multiple times, setting the intended data fields and selecting the courses that they apply to.
To mass edit course data fields:
- Go to District/School Main > Courses > Course Catalog > Mass Edit
- Select Data to Edit
- General Data
- Report Card Data
- Assign Grading Scales
- Assign Category Lists
- Enter a value into the desired data field
- Scroll down to find course listing
- Select the courses to be updated
- Save
All data fields with a value entered will be updated on the selected courses. Therefore, data fields in the Data to Edit section that are not intended to be updated, should be left blank.
Note that the state does not require credit type nor instructional level for classes such as lunch and planning periods. For these types of courses, leave the field blank.
Verify Wave/SIF
The Wave data validation tool is designed to help find data that is missing or invalid according to Wave rules. It’s best practice to try to complete your data entry via mass editing or single course entry before using the tool.
To access and update data via the Wave/SIF validation tool:
- Go to District/School Main > WAVE/SIF Data > Verify Data
- Find the SchoolCourseInfo object
- Click on + to expand the object
- Select a row and click on to edit
