Position types are critical not only for state reporting, but also for identifying how an employee is paid, what they can access in the Employee Self-Service Portal, what contracts they can be assigned to, and more.
New accounts start off with a list of pre-created positions, based on the EIS position types that are reported to ISBE. A SchoolInsight Financials analyst will also have imported existing positions from your previous financial software. You may want to realign these positions with EIS position types, and in the future you may need to create additional positions.
To create a new position type:
- Go to Financials Main > Human Resources > Position Types
- Create Position Type
- Enter a Code, Description, and State Position Type. If the position is not reported through EIS, select Other - Not Reported to State.
Position types should not be deleted unless you are clearing out old positions at the beginning of your implementation. Once a position type has been used by an employee, it needs to stay in the system, but you can mark it inactive so it doesn’t appear when creating future employees.
To edit a position type:
- Go to Financials Main > Human Resources > Position Types
- Edit a position
- Change the applicable field
- Save
