This article will discuss some of the common errors you may encounter when running the Missouri Student Information System (MOSIS) June Cycle Student Discipline export.
The most common errors are as follows:
- Sorry, this Offense Type is not a valid MOSIS type and won't be submitted
- Sorry, this Discipline Removal (Action Type) is not a valid MOSIS type and won't be submitted
- Length Removed must be supplied
Sorry, this Offense Type is not a valid MOSIS type and won’t be submitted
This error occurs if the action type is configured to be reported to the state while the incident type is not. You can see which incident types are set to report to the state by looking at the incident type list in the discipline module.
To determine if an incident type is set to report to the state:
- Go to Main > Discipline > Incident Types
- Check if the incident type has a value in the State Code column
If there is a value, then the incident type will report to the state. If the incident type does not have a value, there are three options to resolve this error:
- Change the incident type to one that is reported to the state
- Change the action type to one that is not reported to state
- Create a new incident type that is reportable to state and update the discipline incident to reference the new type
The third scenario occurs when there are incidents that, depending on the severity, get different actions assigned, of which only some are reported to the state. In these cases, two distinct incident types will need to be created. For more information on creating a new discipline incident type, please look at this article.
To change an incident/action type on an existing incident:
- Go to Main > Discipline > Discipline Incidents
- (District level only) Select the School where the incident takes place
- (Optional) If incident is marked closed, check Show Closed Items
- Find the incident in question
- If in Student Mode, find the student using the search bar
- If in Date Mode, select the date the incident occurred
- Select Edit on the incident in question
- Update the incident/action type
- Under Incident Type, select the correct incident type
- Under Student, click edit and select the correct action type
- Save
