In Missouri, student attendance for offsite virtual courses are reported according to a course completion rate. Therefore, SchoolInsight will calculate offsite virtual attendance based on course enrollment and student percentage of course completion, rather than by the traditional method of present or absent status. Keep in mind that courses, classes and rosters are required to be set up for offsite virtual instruction, similar to how they are required for a traditional day school.
There are two steps for managing offsite virtual class attendance:
Configure offsite virtual classes
Virtual classes have unique attributes that require additional settings for both state reporting and attendance calculation.
To update the virtual class data fields on classes:
- Go to School Main > Classes/Sections > edit
- Set Course Delivery System to Virtual Class - V
- Set Student Placement to Offsite
- Set Virtual Attendance Hours Per Day
- Set Total Virtual Attendance Hours for Class
- Save
Enter student course completion values
Student course completion rates are measured in percentages and are based on the amount of work that the student completed in the designated time frame. This information is typically provided by the school or organization that is managing the student’s instruction. There are two options for setting course completion rates. This can be done en masse or per individual student and class.
To enter course completion rates en masse:
- Go to School Main > Classes/Sections > View Virtual Attendance
- Mass Edit Course Completion
- Select Course Completion
- Select class enrollments to apply the rate to
- Save
To enter course completion rates for an individual student:
- Go to SchoolMain > Classes/Sections > View Virtual Attendance
- Select Edit on the desired student
- Select edit on the desired class
- Set Amount Complete
- Update
