This article explains how to set up dual enrollment classes, or classes where a student is receiving college credit and the teaching instructor is a college instructor. If you need to set up a dual credit class, or a class where the teaching instructor is a high school instructor, please refer to this article.
This article will cover the following topics
- Setting up the dual credit site
- Taking the class onsite at a college
- Taking a class virtually
- Taking the class via instructional TV (ITV)
Setting up the Dual Credit Site
To report the college that will accept credit for a class, a dual credit site will be set on the class. Before getting started, make sure to create external schools for any colleges that will accept credit from your school. Please refer to this article for instructions on how to create external schools.
Taking the class onsite at a college
When a student is taking a dual enrollment class onsite at the college, the course, class, and roster entry will be created in SchoolInsight. When creating the class, fill the instructor field. While DESE does not require an instructor to be reported for onsite dual enrollment classes, to appear on the Course and Student assignment, an instructor needs to be assigned in SchoolInsight. After you download the files, remove the instructor from the college classes and upload it into DESE.
To create a dual enrollment onsite class:
- Go To School Main > Classes/Sections
- Create New Class
- Enter in the Course
- Enter an Instructor
- Set the Section number
- Set the Dual Credit Site where the class was taken.
- Set Site type to College
- Save
Note that when dual enrollment is taken over the summer, it is reported in the following June Cycle Course Completion. It is not reported in the August Cycle Course Completion
Taking the class virtually
When a student is taking a dual enrollment class virtually, the college instructor must be reported in the system. Since the instructor will not be logging in, the instructor MOSIS Only setting should be set to “Yes”.
To create the college instructor:
- Go To School Main > Instructors > Create Instructors
- Enter teacher First Name, Last Name, Email Address
- Set Self Contained to No
- Set MOSIS Only to Yes
- Save

To create a dual enrollment ITV class:
- Go To School Main > Classes/Sections > Create Class
- Search/Select Course
- Set the Section Number
- Select the college instructor
- Set the Dual Credit Site where the class was taken.

Virtual Attendance Hours Per Day
Daily in-seat hours equivalent to the hours if the course was offered at the school. For example, if the virtual course is equivalent to 1 class period and a class period is 1 hour, then the Virtual Attendance Hours Per Day is 1.
Total Virtual Attendance Hours for Class
Total equivalent in-seat hours for the duration of the course, if the course were to be offered at the school. For example, if the virtual course is equivalent to 1 class period and a class period is 1 hour and would meet 5 days a week for a total of 9 weeks, the total virtual attendance hours is 45.
