In TeacherEase, instructors can create different types of assignments for their students. This article focuses on creating an offline assignment. Offline assignments are the type that teachers, parents, and students are used to seeing in a classroom. Teachers will provide a physical copy of the assignment. Students will complete that assignment and turn it back in to the teacher. Teachers will then grade the assignment manually and enter the students’ grades into TeacherEase.
To create a new offline assignment:
- Go to Instructor Main > Gradebook > Assignments > Create Assignment
- Enter a descriptive Title for the assignment, which will display on the student and parent portals, as well as in the teacher’s Gradebook
- Select Offline - Teacher manually enters grades for Traditional Offline Work vs. Students Complete Online
- Enter Date Due information
- Select all the Students for which the assignment applies
- Select the Grading mode
- Select additional Options
- Add Digital Resources Available Online
- Add additional Notes
- Select Save & Enter Scores if you are ready to enter scores
- Select Save Only if you plan to enter scores at a later time
Assignment Date Due
When entering Date information, select the dates for Assign and Due. The Assign date is the first date the assignment displays in the following three places in the Student/Parent Portal:
- Newsfeed
- Assignments
- Event Calendar
Once the Due date has passed, the student or parent will still be able to view the assignment in Assignments and Calendar by selecting any days between the Assign and Due dates.
Assignment Grading Mode
When creating an offline assignment, a teacher has multiple options to assess a particular assignment. These options vary depending on whether the traditional grading scale mode is set to points or percentage. Additionally, if you created categories in gradebook setup, you must select a category for the assignment.
- Points: The teacher will assign a number of total possible points. Students will then be graded on the number of points they scored out of the total possible points. For example, a student scored 8 points out of 10 total points. This will give the student a numeric score of 8/10.
- Complete/Not Complete: When the grading scale mode is percentage, this will mark a student’s work as Complete (full credit = 100%), Not Complete (no credit = 0%), or ½ credit (50%). When the grading scale mode is points, this will mark a student’s work as Complete (full credit = the highest score on the grading scale) or Not Complete (no credit = 0).Teachers will need to enter the total possible points.
- Letter Grade: Teachers will enter a letter grade for the students’ work. You can select any letter grade that is on the grading scale.
- Percentage: This is only available if the grading scale mode is percentage. This will give each student a percentage value for their work.
- Extra Credit (add points to running total): The first type of extra credit will affect the student’s total points scored. Their total points will be increased by the number of points assigned to this extra credit.
- Extra Credit (add percentage points to the final average): The second type of extra credit is available if the grading scale mode is percentage. It will affect the student’s final average total. The student’s final average increases by the number of percentage points scored.
Digital Resources Available Online
Even as an Offline assignment, you have the option to add a digital resource. This can be helpful when teachers use an online resource and would like students to have access to that when completing that assignment. For example, a teacher shows a portion of a documentary to students and then assigns a writer’s response for homework. By adding that digital resource, students will be able to reference the assignment and view the video when working on the assignment at home.
