How do I determine which learning targets show on report cards?

Teachers may want to use many learning targets to assess student development, while admins want to display only a smaller number for students and parents to view on the report card. In this case, an admin can adjust settings to display only learning targets with report card data, or only learning targets that are covered in the current grading period.

When displaying only learning targets with data, admins should instruct teachers to only enter report card grades for learning targets that should appear on the report card. Teachers may enter as many scores as they like into the gradebook, but report card data will always show on the report card, no matter what the setting.

To control which learning targets are displayed on the report card:

1. Go to Admin Main > Grade Reporting > Define Report Cards
2. Click visual layout next to the report card you want to change
3. Go to the Visual Layout tab
4. In the Which learning targets to show section, choose between
• All Learning Targets
• Learning Targets with data in any grading period
• Learning Targets with data in current grading period
• Covered in current grading period (defined on course)

Learning Target Mode	Explanation
All Learning Targets	Displays all learning targets assigned to a course or class, regardless of whether a teacher has entered grades. If the course/class has a large number of learning targets, this could result in a very long report card.
Learning Targets with data in any grading period (recommended)	Displays a learning target only if the student has received a grade for it, whether the grade was entered in this grading period or a previous grading period. This allows parents and students to view a complete record of all the report card grades a student has received during the current academic year.
Learning Targets with data in current grading period	Displays a learning target only if the student has received a grade for it in the current grading period. This will usually result in the shortest report card, but it may remove learning targets that were graded on previous report card grading periods.
Covered in current grading period (defined on course)	Displays all learning targets that are covered in the current grading period, regardless of whether or not grades have been entered. This option may be used to give greater control over which learning targets are displayed. Admins or instructors often decide to only show learning which upon which focus is placed during the grading period, or to hide some learning targets for organizational purposes.
