When adding learning targets to an assignment, an instructor may not want to see the entire list, especially if there are many learning targets attached to the class. By default, all learning targets will be visible on the Add Learning Targets popup, but specifying which learning targets are covered in which grading periods can limit the number of learning targets the teacher sees.
This option is useful when an instructor knows that they will not assess certain learning targets until a future grading period, or that they will not be assessing certain learning targets after a particular point in time. By displaying a limited number of learning targets, instructors will be able to find the desired learning targets more quickly.
Changing the grading period of a learning target only affects which ones are displayed by default; it does not make them completely unusable. Instructors are always able to access all learning targets, regardless of grading period, by unchecking the box labeled "Only Show Learning Targets For [grading period]."
To edit which learning targets are covered in a grading period if learning targets are instructor-managed:
- Go to Instructor Main > Gradebook > Setup > Learning Targets/Standards
- Choose a class from the subject dropdown menu
- Click More > Edit Grading Periods
- Uncheck boxes to remove a learning target from a grading period
- Save
To edit which learning targets are covered in a grading period if learning targets are admin-managed:
- Go to Admin Main > Courses > Course Catalog
- Click learning targets next to the course whose learning targets you want to edit
- Click More > Edit LT Coverage
- Uncheck boxes to remove a learning target from a grading period
- Save
Admins can also use the Mass Edit LT Coverage feature to change the coverage patterns for many courses at once, marking only top-level or bottom-level learning targets as covered. Top-level learning targets are in bold and don’t belong under any “heading.” Bottom-level learning targets are not bolded, and do not act as a “heading” for other learning targets.
To mass edit learning target coverage:
- Go to Admin Main > Courses > Mass Edit LT Coverage
- Choose between
- Mark ALL learning targets as covered
- Mark ONLY TOP level learning targets as covered
- Mark BOTTOM level learning targets as covered
- Select the Grading Period(s) to Update
- Select the classes that these changes should apply to
- Save
