Graduation requirements allow you to track students’ progress towards graduating. You start by defining degrees with different credit, course, and test requirements. Next, you assign these degrees to students. As a result, you can run reports to compare student progress against assigned degrees to track completed and missed graduation requirements.
This article will cover the following topics:
- Creating degrees
- Creating degree requirements
- Assigning degrees
- Running the graduation requirements report
Creating Degrees
The first step in setting up graduation requirements is to create degrees in your system. If students at your school take different paths to graduate, then create a degree for each path. Most schools create one or two degrees only.
To create a graduation requirements degree:
- Go to Main > Grade reporting > Graduation Requirements
- Create Degree
- Enter in the degree description
- (optional) mark if this is the default degree
- Save
Creating Degree requirements
Once the degree is created, you can begin adding specific graduation requirements. There are five types of requirements that can be assigned to a degree, which can be seen below.
Degree Requirements | Description |
Overall Credits | Total number of required credits to graduate |
Required Credits in Subject Area(s) | Total number of credits required from any one department or area of study i.e. Mathematics |
Required credits within a set of courses | Used when a student takes one or more sections from a defined list of courses in order to graduate. For example, a student may need to take a credit in history, and can take either world history, US history, or State history to satisfy this requirement |
Required course(s) | Individual course(s) that are required of every student to graduate |
Required test | A school-wide or grade-level-wide test that students need to take to graduate. For example, a state constitution test. For more information on creating tests, please look at the following article |
To create degree requirements:
- Go To Main > Grade Reporting > Graduation requirements
- Click view on the desired degree
- Create degree requirement
- Select the type of requirement
- Enter in the specific fields for that requirement type
- (Optional) Give the requirement a title
- Save
Assigning degrees
Once degrees have been created, and requirements have been added to the degree, the final step in setting up degrees is assigning them to students. We recommend mass assigning degrees to save time. You can also mass remove a degree following these same steps below.
To mass assign degrees:
- Go To School Main > Grade Reporting > Graduation Requirements
- Assign students
- Select which degree to assign
- Select which students you want to assign this degree to
- Save
Running the graduation requirements report
Run the Check Graduation Requirements report to view students’ meeting or missing graduation requirements tied to their degrees.
To run the graduation requirements report:

- Choose the output format
- Configure the following options:
- Show details for each student (may take a few minutes) - selecting this option will show a breakdown to see if a student is meeting each individual degree requirement. If this is unchecked, it will only show if the student has met their graduation requirements
